Nordic Skate Companies

Below is an alphabetical list of companies that currently make Nordic skates and Nordic skating equipment.

Ermine Skate

Founded in 2021, Alaska-based Ermine Skate is North America’s first and only Nordic skate company. Ermine’s colorful skates prioritize performance and durability on challenging “adventure” ice. Ermine has notched a number of industry first in recent years, including the first Xplore-compatible skate, first kids Nordic skate, and first Nordic skate for alpine touring boots and bindings. Ermine’s skates are designed and manufactured in Southcentral Alaska, and are sold both online and via brick-and-mortar retailers.

Isviida

Isviida’s affordable entry-level blades are a common sight in North America, though there is very little information available about the company. According to one retailer they are made in China.

Lundhags

Lundhags makes a comprehensive line of outdoor goods, including clothing, footwear, and Nordic skating equipment. Its newest line of Torne skates are made in Sweden using recycled Swedish stainless steel. In addition to Nordic skates, Lundhags also sells ice picks, wild ice backpacks, and ice poles.

Skyllermarks

Based in Sweden, Skyllermarks makes Nordic skates, ice poles, self-rescue picks, and other Nordic skating products. Some Skyllermarks skates include a unique lateral binding adjustment in order to optimize balance. Recent models include the Orange, which is optimized for NNN bindings, and the Baltic, which is geared toward NNN BC.

Zandstra

This iconic Dutch company entered the skate market in 1931 and has played a major role in popularizing the sport of Nordic skating. They currently manufacture a wide range of Nordic skates, speed skates, and recreational skates, along with sharpening tools and other accessories. Their deep red NIS Nordic skate is well-regarded in Alaska for its quality steel, adjustability, and light weight.
